Franjo Čibej's article On The Essence Of Dance (1926) that was published in 1926 in the Vol.3-4 of the magazine Križ is the oldest known example of a theoretical text on contemporary dance in Slovenia. In 1924/25 Čibej spent two semester studying in Munich where he was most probably exposed to some modern dance performances that made a great impression on him. As a student of philosophy he had an urge to articulate the phenomenon. Franjo Čibej (1901-1929) died very young in 1929. His article has been rediscovered in 2018.
