He graduated from the Ballet School in 1961 in the class of Aleksandar Dobrokhotov. Husein was primarily a solo dancer with numerous creations in various styles, among which the most memorable remain Mercutio, Petrushka, and Peter Pan. He lived for ballet, and the audience knew it. In an interview for Tea Moderna, he once stated: "Ballet is my life, and when I say that, there is no exaggeration."
For his contributions to dance, Ekrem Husein received the awards Young Fighter, 13 November, and Dance Fest Skopje.
He redirected his creative dance career towards répétiteur work and choreography. Some of his notable choreographies include Adagio, Kara Mita, Time for Love, Peter and the Wolf, The Great Bach, The Red Swan, and others. At the First Yugoslav Ballet Competition in Novi Sad, in the category of young choreographers, Ekrem Husein received the Silver Plaque in 1982 for Adagio to Albinoni's music.
