The Hall has been named after Anton Tomaž Linhart (1756–1795), a Carniolan playwright and historian, main figure of the Slovenian Enlightenment, the father of Slovene historiography and author of the first theatre play in Slovenian, a polyglot, translator, archivist and librarian.
