Established in 1989 at Bitef Theater, Signum theater was Serbia's first professional dance company, comprised of eight dancers (Anđelija Todorović, Tatjana Pajović, Dejan Pajović, Tatjana Popović, Vesna Stanojević, Danica Arapović, Svetlana Marković, Nenad Čolić) and led by choreographer Dejan Pajović, blending avant-garde theater, physical theater, and modern dance while drawing on narratives from literary classics. Their productions showcased a unique vocabulary that emphasized non-verbal expressions and the body’s language, notably in the 1992 performance "Macbeth looking for Macbeth," which celebrated sensuality and visual ecstasy through a minimalist aesthetic and profound dancer expressiveness.
