Synopsis

The dance performance Macbeth is a continuation of the repertoire policy of the Bitef Dance Company, which aims to present new directions in the development of dance theater to the audience, through choreographic stagings of great works of world literature. So far, Shakespeare's Othello, Dante's Divine Comedy, Molière's Don Juan, Aristophanes' Birds have been realized...

The choreography of the performance Macbeth was entrusted to the young choreographer Miloš Isailović, who has created a large number of exceptional acting roles in the Bitef Dance Company, and for his first choreographic performance Dunjaluk, produced by the Bitef Theater, he received the Dimitrije Parlić Award.

And in this dance production, based on a classical dramatic concept, Macbeth will be only an ideological starting point for the development of the author's vision of the contemporary world, in the context of the atmosphere that reigns in this famous Shakespearean work – it is a dark world of conspiracy, crime, psychological deviations, lust for power, passion...

A contemporary choreographic interpretation of Macbeth offers a handful of stage possibilities. The character of Lady Macbeth always attracts special attention, and the appearance of the three witches is certainly very attractive, who, like all the other characters, will be visually integrated into a timeless framework, giving the audience a sense of modernity, contemporaneity and, above all, the universality of Shakespeare's ideas.

Jelena Kajgo, Artistic Director of Bitef Dance Company

I see Macbeth as a story about the internal struggle of two people. People with big ambitions. The whole story is imbued with the feminine principle, determination, but also manipulation. Everything is allowed in the fight for the throne, or today in the fight for power and a high position. And in the end too high a price is paid, the kingdom won in blood, madness and remorse. Through the story of Macbeth, Shakespeare warns us that those who want power at any cost never have good intentions, and are ready for anything. And he warns us to be careful about our wishes and desires, because they can come true. And at the top we remain alone, strong winds blow there, and all our dirt can be seen in that clearing.
