ANET (Asocijacija nezavisnih teatara) was a pioneering network of independent and experimental theatre companies in Serbia, formed in 1999. It brought together prominent alternative troupes like Dah Teatar, Teatar MIMART, and Plavo pozorište.Historical Significance & Activities:Roots: Created to unite independent artists, foster avant-garde methodologies, and advocate for systemic improvements in the performing arts.Investigative Projects: Ran highly influential research and educational projects, such as the Play Against Violence initiative launched in 2000.Evolution: While ANET functioned collectively into the early 2000s, many of its foundational member troupes transitioned into independent associations, such as POD Teatar.The Independent Scene Today:Today, the legacy of ANET is carried forward through broader collaborative networks for independent arts in Serbia. Most notably, the Asocijacija Nezavisna kulturna scena Srbije (NKSS) serves as the primary umbrella organization that continues to support independent theatre, dance, and circus collectives.
