In the early 1970s two experimental theaters were founded in Ljubljana: Experimental Theater Glej and Theater Pekarna. The first was founded in 1970 by directors, playwrights and actors connected with the heritage of The Stage 57. Among them was Lado Kralj, postgraduate student of NYU’s profesor and theater director Richard Schechner. When Kralj returned to Ljubljana in 1971, he distanced himself from EG Glej and founded the Pekarna Theater with Ivo Svetina and other colleagues in the space of an abandoned bakery in Ljubljana Vič.
