Synopsis

Disclosed Nature or Stories About Plants and Workers is an ongoing artistic-curatorial project based on the exploration of the problems of (cultural / cultivated) labor and the author’s intimate fascination with flora (plants that he collects and cares for).

The project’s primary focus is the examination of the position of workers in relation to the plants that surround them, as well as an inquiry into what may emerge from this unusual interaction; perhaps only the possibility of creating utopia, tranquility, and contemplation, or constructing different ideological and social models related to the concepts of non-work and post-work, which simultaneously call into question capitalist “sins” such as laziness and idleness.

The project was initiated in 2018 during a two-month residency at Q21 in Vienna and was presented in the form of a one-hour lecture-performance in English in a public space (the Belvedere Botanical Garden).

The following fifteen-minute edition of the project, also in English, was presented in 2019 in a different format as part of the 4th Berlin Herbstsalon and the Young Curators Academy program held at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, while last year it was presented in Serbian as part of the 91st Spring Exhibition “Where Does the Future Begin?”.

Initially, the Vienna edition of the lecture-performance was adapted to the local context, marking the production of a new work that premiered in 2020 as part of the 13th Kondenz Festival. The latest edition, adapted to the Gorica forest park, was performed in July of this year as part of the Podgorica Cultural Summer event in Montenegro.
