Duška Gradiški is a Macedonian ballerina, choreographer, and ballet pedagogue whose decades-long career has left a significant mark on the development of ballet in North Macedonia and on the education of young ballet artists in the United States.
She began her ballet training in Skopje, where she developed a passion for classical dance from an early age. Following her professional career as a ballerina, she devoted herself to choreography and ballet pedagogy—fields in which she established a distinctive artistic vision and educational approach.
After graduating from the Ilija Nikolovski–Luj Secondary Ballet School in Skopje, where she studied under Professor Gjurgjica Jovanovska, she joined the Ballet Company of the Macedonian National Theatre (today the National Opera and Ballet) in 1984. The following year, she was awarded a scholarship for advanced professional training at the prestigious A. Y. Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in St. Petersburg, where she further specialized in classical ballet pedagogy and methodology.
For more than three decades, Gradiški has worked as a ballerina, choreographer, and ballet educator, dedicating her career to the advancement of classical ballet and the training of young dancers. Her professional philosophy is founded on discipline, artistic excellence, and an individualized approach to every student.
In 2007, she relocated to the United States, where she continued her professional career as a ballet teacher and choreographer. She has worked with numerous ballet schools and studios, successfully passing on her knowledge, experience, and passion for dance to new generations of performers. Her work reflects a unique synthesis of the Macedonian ballet tradition and the principles of the Russian classical ballet school, shaped through years of education and professional refinement.
Alongside her pedagogical work, Gradiški continues to create original choreographic works and collaborate with various ballet institutions and ensembles, contributing to the growth and international recognition of ballet as an art form beyond the borders of her homeland.
