Synopsis

Eight people are on an uninhabited island. The reasons why they found themselves there are different: some experienced a shipwreck, some fled from the war, and some from the pace of life and problems that they can no longer overcome. They have nowhere to return, and it is difficult for them to adapt to new conditions. The uncertainty they face raises different questions and feelings in them. The dance piece "The Island" deals with the topic of migration, but without the concrete political context that one might expect. The action is not set in any time, in any space, nor is it related to a specific community, culture or identity. The confusion and discomfort the characters face at the beginning can have an unexpectedly positive outcome. This is also the main dramaturgical and ideological line of this play - that migration is not necessarily a hardship and misfortune, nor just leaving the old and accepting the new, but also the possibility of finding different values and building a better, more beautiful life. The island does not have to be a symbol of isolation and loneliness, but a place of slowing down, a different pace and a new outlook on life - distance from things that burden us or make us unhappy. It is a symbolic, perhaps utopian place of tranquility that we all aspire to.
