“Underground” is a contemporary music and dance performance that explores a specific sociocultural phenomenon through the language of movement – the world of techno culture, urban youth energy, and the space of the marginalized individual.
Created as a bold attempt to merge contemporary dance with elements of popular culture, the work raises questions about the possibility of dialogue between established artistic forms and new movements and aesthetics emerging from contemporary society. “Underground” approaches electronic music not merely as a soundscape, but as a form of expression, a way of life, and a space where the identity of a generation is shaped.
Within its one-hour pulsating stage structure, electronic sound and choreographic movement intertwine to create a dynamic composition filled with contrasts, emotional relationships, and powerful physical energy. The choreography creates a moving universe in which the body becomes a medium for exploring freedom, isolation, rebellion, and the human need for belonging.
The performance is distinguished by its contemporary stage expression, precise kinetic language, and striking visual atmosphere, enhanced by unique lighting solutions and a scenographic approach that emphasizes the intimate, enclosed, and rebellious world of a young person existing beyond established social frameworks.
In collaboration with Kiro Pavlov (set design) and Darko Jordanov (music selection), “Underground” represents a work that expands traditional approaches to ballet and dance, moving toward new forms of stage communication.
