Dance of the Cadets is a tasteful and skilfully crafted mosaic of the finest pages from Strauss’s artistic legacy, a magnificent bouquet of eternal, vibrant, and inexhaustible melodic invention.
The female students of the Petrograd College organize their traditional celebration, to which they invite the cadets from the Military Academy. The cadets arrive with their general and, after overcoming their initial shyness, begin to enjoy themselves with the young women. The general begins to court the college director, a gesture noticed by all those present.
Following the general’s obvious attempts to win the director’s affection, the dance reaches its climax and concludes with a great celebration in which everyone takes part.
