COFESTIVAL

"CoFestival, which integrates the artistic programmes of Pleskavica, Ukrep and Modul Dance (of the international European Dancehouse Network), is an artistic manifestation of collaborative work in the hybrid field of contemporary dance. It reflects a specific time where we ended up thanks to global financial markets, and the possibilities for a new consideration of what it means to live and spend time together, what it means to collaborate and make art, and what it means to create policies and methods of collaborative work in the field of art. Undoubtedly, this festival has been marked strongly by last year’s edition of Pleskavica, where rather than finished artworks, the focus was on joint work of invited contemporary dance artists, producers, dramaturges and critics. They created a kind of a virus that spread through the region to Impulstanz in Vienna, where the Nomad Dance Academy network was having a residency, to festivals Kondenz (Belgrade) and LocoMotion (Skopje) and to the educational format entitled Teaching The Teachers, which is being developed in the network Jardin d'Europe and was executed last year by the Skopje-based non-governmental organisation Lokomotiva in a partnership with the Balkan network Nomad Dance Academy. Having realised that the ideology of cultural policies and production was exhausting our temporal choreography of art manufacture, it has been our aspiration to shift the festival programme from production to creation. We have been striving to free the dance from manufacture, give it time and to make sure we had a great time as well.

CoFestival is neither an esoteric get-together nor a heterotopic platform. Rather, it is a procedurally programmed joint artistic and educational programme combining three festivals, its aim being to co-shape in a responsive and reflexive manner the conditions and organisation of artistic creation as well as the ways of artistic presence in the addressed social space. We are interested in interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary and non-disciplinary creation of dance potentials and perspectives ranging between art, science and education, i.e. between the fields of creativity that no country should eliminate from its policies when thinking its future. At the same time it has to be stressed that our work also focuses on erasing the intergenerational borders, to which special attention has been paid within certain projects. There is no age limits in creativity and education. In no way should collaborative and experimental work be an exclusive domain in art, science and education, yet we believe that these are the fields where its growth is ensured the best climate. CoFestival wishes to provide the space for excessive creativity and thought, which is the only way to anticipate the approach of new times."
