Dejan Bitrovski is a contemporary artist, dancer, and choreographer with a background in hip-hop and urban dance styles. He completed a specialization in contemporary dance at the Skopje Dance Academy. In 2021/2022, he enrolled in the Master of Arts in Contemporary Dance Education program at the Faculty of Film Arts, Goce Delchev University, Shtip, graduating with an average grade of 10.00 and the title of Master of Contemporary Dance – Methodology and Pedagogy of Contemporary Dance.
He has been a member of Skopje Dance Theater since 2014, participating both as dancer and choreographer. He also teaches at the Department of Contemporary Dance at Goce Delchev University. His choreographic debut, “Me and Us” (2017), was created for Skopje Dance Theater dancers. In 2019, at Dance Fest Skopje, he presented “Lucid Yos”, also produced with Skopje Dance Theater. In 2019/2020, he created “Contour”, a solo piece performed by contemporary dancer Anastasija Danchevska, reflecting on womanhood in the modern world.
During the following years, he created several works for Skopje Dance Theater, presented at Dance Fest Skopje (2020, 2021), including “Godspeed” and “Devil’s Hole”, inspired by social perceptions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bitrovski collaborated with cinematographer Vladislav Gavrilovski and composers Toni Kitanovski and Viktor Filipovski. His work “Blocks” (2023) draws inspiration from Kocho Racin’s poetry collection “White Dawns”, using satire and stage elements to portray societal division. His 2024 production “Abandoned Future” focused on abstract choreographic linearity.
Bitrovski has performed in North Macedonia and abroad in numerous productions, including “All My Pictures”, “Silence of the Bees”, “Chiaroscuro”, “Alive Elsewhere”, “Find Someone”, “Alphabet”, “Wrong”, “Valley”, “Kettle”, “Same Source”, “Sketch”, “Identities”, “Flash and Bones”, “Tragedy of the Tiger Beetle”, “The World Between”, and “Do Not Touch My Eyes”.
He has collaborated with many renowned choreographers, including Risima Risimkin (North Macedonia), Joan van der Mast (Netherlands), Antonello Tudisco (Italy), Chao Ke (China), Anton Rudakov (Russia/Germany), Simon Kuban (Czech Republic), and Yotam Peled (Israel). Bitrovski has participated in international festivals such as Open Stage (The Hague, Rotterdam), SHARE (Bratislava), Silk Road Festival (Quanzhou, China), Holland Dance Festival (The Hague), and Battery Dance Festival (New York, USA).
In 2019, he was invited as professor and choreographer at the China–CEICE Summer Dance Camp, where he co-created the piece “Streaming” with Croatian choreographer Martina Tomic. In 2022, Bitrovski co-founded the contemporary art collective “Dance Bunker” with choreographers Danchevska-Rovchanin and Balabanova, launching the festival “Dance Bunker – Platform 01”. From 2010 to 2016, he was part of the urban dance studio “Bitrix”, serving as a leading choreographer and instructor.
