Why Zodiac? Lately, all those frontier fields of science have become rather fashionable. The idea of exploring human character through the influence of the stars, translated into music and dance, struck us as both compelling and highly theatrical. Ballet, as a unique form of stage art, offers limitless possibilities for imagination and illusion, so Goran’s idea of playing with the stars seemed exceptionally original.
Bodan and I composed the score throughout the entire previous summer, working with great dedication and a highly analytical approach. I know you are interested in the musical concept, especially since ballet has its own artistic conventions and very specific demands, and this is, after all, our first encounter with this art form.
You see, all the arts share many common characteristics, particularly the performing arts, and I do not consider myself a novice in this field. I know the theatre well—I have composed music for it before. Besides, don't you think that rock music was made for dance?
Within those eighty minutes of music, there is a little of everything: funk, jazz, samba... What I have seen so far during the ballet rehearsals has truly impressed me.
